"new nutritional recommendations issued
today
by the National Academy of Sciences ...
urge more fiber in the diet"
Washington Post
September 5, 2002
This software was developed in collaboration with Dr. James W.
Anderson and his staff at the University of Kentucky College of
Medicine.
Dr. Anderson is Professor of Medicine and Clinical
Nutrition at the University of Kentucky. His research
interests relate to diabetes, blood lipid disorders, obesity and
nutrition. He pioneered the use of high fiber diets for treatment
of diabetes.
Dr. Anderson was listed among "The Best Doctor's in America"
in 1999 and is the Secretary-Treasurer of the American College of
Nutrition.
He serves on the Editoral Boards of the following publications:
Diabetes Self-Management, 1987-present; Prevention, 1989-present;
PRIME Health and Fitness, 1998-present; Editor, HCF Diabetes and
Nutrition Newsletter.
Dr. Anderson's HCF Nutrition Plan
Diabetes
Generous fiber intake lowers blood glucose levels, reduces insulin
needs and improves blood glucose control. An HCF Nutrition Plan
helps control diabetes with diet rather than medicine by reducing
(for Type 1) or eliminating (for Type 2) the need for medicines
or insulin.
High Cholesterol
Foods rich in soluble fiber, such as oat products and beans, lower
blood cholesterol. An HCF Nutrition Plan lowers blood cholesterol
and other blood fats by as much as 30%, reducing the risk for heart
disease by 60%.
High Blood Pressure
High Fiber intake lowers blood pressure 10% or more. Since the HCF
Nutrition Plan emphasizes unprocessed foods such as fresh fruits
and vegetables, it is low in sodium and high in potassium, calcium,
magnesium. Sodium contributes to high blood pressure in many individuals.
Obesity
High fiber diets promote weight loss and increases satiety. Dr.
Anderson's successful weight control approach combines an HCF Nutrition
Plan with regular exercise, fostering lifelong weight management.
Heart Disease
People with high fiber intake experience less heart disease than
those with low fiber intake. An HCF Nutrition Plan protects against
heart disease by reducing risk factors such as high blood fats,
high blood pressure and obesity.
This software contains many of NutriGenie
unique technologies and analyses, such as star rating of overall
diet quality. Each diet is given a star rating from 1 to 5 making
it superbly convenient to assess the quality of one's nutrition.
After all, the best diet is about more than any one single aspect
of nutrition. The best diet should minimally be nutritious, balanced
and varied. No software from our competitors can provide the sophisticated
nutrition evaluation that ours does.
NutriGenie High Fiber Diet incorporates the September
2002 guidelines issued by the Institute of Medicine, the medical
division of the National Academies. The latest guidelines establish
for the first time a range of recommended amounts (Dietary Reference
Intakes or DRIs) for macronutrients proteins, fats and carbohydrates
for maintenance of good health. Previous reports from the
National Research Council over the last 60 years have dealt only
with recommended levels (RDAs) of vitamins and minerals.
